Written in Tagalog and in English. From the Introduction (translated): This is not a cookbook. This is also not a coffee table book. This is an effort to continue the essay of Doreen G. Fernandez in 1994 about “food in literature.” This is an introductory compilation of excerpts and sample works that show Filipino food in accordance to what our poets, essayists, authors, and other agents of the arts wrote.

This book answers the question: How is Filipino food presented in literature? How are day-to-day meals and special dishes portrayed in literature and the arts? All in all, this is a collection of published poems, essays, and songs that mention or discuss what Filipinos eat. There are also images in this book to present the participation of painters, photographers, comic artists, cartoonists, and other visual artists. But this is not an encyclopedia. We merely chose what can be seen as examples to prove the thesis that, rich or poor, poets also eat.
